Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Architect / Consultant with strong experience in revenue recognition, finance systems, billing platforms, and SAP integration. The role involves leading the architecture and design of revenue recognition and billing solutions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, system integration, data integrity, and compliance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Revenue Recognition & Billing Architecture
- Lead the end-to-end architecture and design of revenue recognition logic within billing systems.
- Design solutions for deferred revenue, contract modifications, and multiple performance obligations.
- Translate revenue recognition requirements into functional and technical design specifications.
- Support revenue treatment across new contracts, amendments, cancellations, usage-based charges, bundles, and promotions.
- Identify and address risks related to revenue leakage, reporting accuracy, and financial controls.
SAP Integration & Systems Architecture
- Define the integration architecture between billing systems and SAP, including data flows, timing, and reconciliation.
- Work with SAP FI/CO, Revenue Accounting and Reporting, and billing-related systems.
- Design and review interface specifications for revenue and billing data exchange.
- Support integration methods including IDocs, APIs, BAPIs, ETL, and middleware.
- Trace and analyze revenue data across complex system-to-system integrations.
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
- Establish and oversee reconciliation processes between billing sub-ledgers and the SAP general ledger.
- Support month-end and quarter-end close processes.
- Validate financial data, journal entries, and revenue reporting workflows.
- Ensure solutions support accurate financial reporting and reconciliation.
Governance, Compliance & Testing
- Review solution designs for scalability, data integrity, auditability, and financial controls.
- Support compliance requirements, including SOX and internal controls.
- Support SIT and UAT test strategy and execution for revenue reporting scenarios.
- Validate edge cases, exceptions, and complex billing scenarios.
- Identify system gaps and drive remediation.
Documentation & Stakeholder Management
- Create and maintain data mappings, business rules, interface specifications, and technical design documentation.
- Work closely with Finance, Accounting, Controllership, and IT teams.
- Translate requirements between finance stakeholders and technical teams.
- Act as a subject matter expert for revenue recognition and finance reporting.
- Mentor architects and analysts involved in the program.
Required Skills & Experience
Revenue Recognition & Finance Reporting
- Working knowledge of ASC 606 and IFRS 15 revenue recognition standards with real implementation experience.
- Experience with deferred revenue, contract assets and liabilities, revenue waterfalls, and multiple performance obligations.
- Understanding of month-end and quarter-end close processes, journal entries, and sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliation.
- Familiarity with internal financial controls and SOX compliance requirements.
SAP & Systems Architecture
- Hands-on experience with SAP FI/CO.
- Experience with SAP Revenue Accounting and Reporting is strongly preferred.
- Experience with SAP BRIM, including Convergent Invoicing and Charging, or similar billing-to-SAP integration models is a plus.
- Experience integrating billing platforms with SAP.
- Strong understanding of IDocs, APIs, BAPIs, ETL, and middleware.
- Strong SQL and data analysis skills.
Program & Leadership Skills
- 10+ years of experience in finance systems, revenue or billing systems, or financial reporting.
- 5+ years of experience in a Senior, Architect, or Lead role on billing or revenue system implementations.
- Strong ability to work between Finance and technical teams and validate requirements from both perspectives.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.
- Experience working with Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies on large system implementation programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
- SAP certification in RAR, FI, or related modules.
- Experience in telecom or subscription-based billing environments.
- Experience with usage-based billing, recurring revenue, and plan changes.
- Prior experience with large-scale billing transformation or ERP revenue module implementation programs.
