Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Databricks & Snowflake Platform Administrator to join our Cloud Platform team. This role is responsible for designing, administering, securing, and operating enterprise Databricks and Snowflake platforms. You will lead platform administration, governance, security, automation, and operational excellence while partnering with Data Engineering, Security, Cloud Platform, Customer Engineering, and Product teams. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Databricks and Snowflake administration, cloud infrastructure, identity management, automation, and platform operations. You will drive standardization, security, reliability, cost optimization, and self-service capabilities across multiple cloud environments.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead administration of enterprise Databricks and Snowflake platforms across multiple environments.
- Provision and configure new Databricks Accounts, Workspaces, Unity Catalog Metastores, and Snowflake Accounts.
- Design and implement secure Identity and Access Management (IAM), including SSO, SCIM provisioning, MFA, and RBAC.
- Manage users, groups, service principals, roles, permissions, grants, and access policies across Databricks and Snowflake.
- Configure and administer Unity Catalog, catalogs, schemas, external locations, storage credentials, shares, and governance policies.
- Administer Snowflake databases, warehouses, resource monitors, roles, shares, network policies, masking policies, row access policies, and data governance features.
- Implement account-level security controls, audit logging, encryption, and compliance requirements.
- Configure PrivateLink, network connectivity, IP allowlists, firewall policies, and secure access controls.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for Databricks and Snowflake resources.
- Automate platform provisioning, user onboarding, workspace creation, account setup, and operational tasks using Terraform, Python, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor platform health, availability, performance, and capacity using enterprise monitoring solutions.
- Troubleshoot platform issues involving authentication, networking, storage, compute, permissions, SQL Warehouses, clusters, and data access.
- Plan and execute platform upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery, backup validation, and business continuity testing.
- Optimize compute utilization, warehouse sizing, cluster policies, auto-scaling, and overall cloud costs.
- Partner with Security teams to implement governance standards, compliance controls, vulnerability remediation, and audit readiness.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Data teams to support onboarding of new projects, tenants, and production workloads.
- Develop operational runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), knowledge articles, and self-service documentation.
- Participate in production on-call rotations, incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and operational reviews.
- Mentor engineers and establish platform administration best practices.
Skills You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience administering enterprise data platforms or cloud infrastructure.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Databricks administration.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake administration.
- Strong knowledge of Databricks Account Console, Workspaces, Unity Catalog, SQL Warehouses, Clusters, Jobs, Delta Sharing, and Lakehouse architecture.
- Strong experience with Snowflake account administration, Virtual Warehouses, Databases, Roles, Resource Monitors, Data Sharing, Secure Data Sharing, and Snowpark.
- Experience implementing Identity Federation using Azure AD, Okta, or other enterprise identity providers.
- Strong experience with SCIM provisioning, SAML SSO, OAuth, and service principals.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform for Databricks and Snowflake infrastructure automation.
- Strong scripting skills using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience working with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Skills That Are Nice to Have
- Databricks Certified Data Engineer or Databricks Platform Administrator certification.
- Snowflake SnowPro Core or SnowPro Advanced certification.
- Experience with Unity Catalog migration and governance implementation.
- Experience with Delta Sharing and Snowflake Secure Data Sharing.
- Experience with Apache Spark internals and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized workloads.
- Experience with FinOps and cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, or other compliance frameworks.
- Knowledge of AI/ML platform administration and MLOps.
- Experience supporting enterprise SaaS platforms in a 24×7 production environment.
- Familiarity with ITIL, Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and SRE operational practices.
